4) Mobile, AL
We are here in Mobile, AL for a few weeks to get boat work done. In between working on boat projects we will try and take some side trips.
I will post every few days when we have something "post worthy".
Haul out day!
We have been at Turner Marina in Mobile, AL for 7 days over Thanksgiving to the upcoming day our boat is hauled out to start getting the bottom ready for saltwater. Monday morning we were scheduled for a 10:00 am haul out but we were sitting on the bottom of the marina. Low tide was 8:56am. So we waited and waited to start floating again. 2:30pm we were able to get to the haul out well. Video shows the process.
Our home for the night. Which one would you pick?
Yep! Holiday Inn it was! Kim's choices (the boat in a sling) are not always the best choices. Random guy in the elevator at the hotel recommended this Mexican restaurant and we found that is had been featured on Diners, Drive ins and Dives.
And the check comes in a book. You can write messages in the book if you want.
I think I read that book years ago.
We took a side trip to New Orleans before the boat work started. We stayed at the Astor Hotel. Found out that it is one of the most haunted hotels in the area. Who knew? The headboard should have been a clue! In the middle of the night the TV mount broke and TV was half hanging off the wall. Was this a sign? Good thing it was only for 3 nights.
We had good food, found good music 8 blocks away from the French Quarter but loved the walk, hunted for alligators on the bayou and was ready to go back to the boat.
Boat Projects took almost month. The list turned into 2 lists!
The boat was moved to the boatyard. A strange place to have our home for 3 weeks. I stayed 2 nights then "bailed" to New Jersey. Kim braved the conditions to continue working on boat projects.
There was time for some fun while Kim worked on the boat. He scored fresh shrimp off a shrimp boat, he went to see the USS Alabama, watched a boat parade from the local dive bar and hung out with all the other guys staying on their boats while the wives were with the families.

We hired Tracy Carroll (251.554.1683) to wax and polish the boat, remove bottom paint and repaint bottom getting it ready for salt water. He let Kim help! Tracy also fixed chips in the gelcoat.
New Jersey
It was awesome to catch up with the Katie, John and the granddaughters. Naya and Alice are growing up so fast! I was able to attend one of Alice's Hip Hop class and one ballet class and Naya's Art Show. These girls so talented! Katie took me to the City to Little Island, lunch and dinner and Six for my birthday. Loved it!
Kim flew in for Christmas and a much needed break. (He napped a lot!)
