12) Clifton Bay, Nassau
March 7, Saturday
Time to move. We need to get to Nassau to meet John and Jackie Weller, our friends who are going to sail with us for the next week or so. Weather doesn't look great. 17-20 knots of wind out of the east. 5-6 footers with an occasional 8 footer. Kim had a plan to sail across then down towards the anchorage to catch some wind in the sails. Our original route, going straight to Clifton Bay, would have taken us 15 hours at 3 knots taking 15+ hours. Not acceptable!
Original Route.
Kim comment on this picture is"Oh Crap! Dorothy sees a BIG wave."
Still no big fish but Kim keeps trying. He had been using "Sherman, the squid". However, Sherman became fish food as we entered Morgan's Bluff and the fish broke the line. So now "Frank" is being sacrificed to catch the big one.
We made it to Clifton Bay in 8 hours. Other boats already anchored but there was plenty of room for us. We saw a lone palm tree, much like Fred, the Tree in the Florida Keys. So Sarah has named it Harold and a potential children's book will be coming. We were exhausted but glad to be anchored. Dinner, watch the sunset and sleep.
As we left the anchorage, barges came in. We passed by the Bluff that we had walked out on.
Sunday, March 8
Nassau
WOW!!!! We are not in Kansas anymore! Left our quiet anchorage to dodging freighters, huge yachts, party boats, etc in Nassau Harbor.
We fueled up and got to our slip with John and Jackie's help. High winds and current made these two tasks challenging! Wellers will be with us for the next week. So happy to see them!
Walked into downtown but it was Sunday after 5:00 so all the stores were closed but we got a good walk in.
