17) Georgetown
Thursday, March 19
Had a calm night but around 6:00 am there was this banging sound. The mooring ball was slapping the hull. Now this is odd since we should not be so close to the mooring ball. There was some wind and a current but still we should not have the mooring ball so close. We quick ate breakfast and the guys went to investigate. The bridle was wrapped around the mooring ball. So dingy down, Jason jumped in and untied the mess.
Dingy tied back up and off we went. The day was a mixture of motoring and sailing. We had 6 hours until we got to Georgetown.
As we went for a walk to see what is here a random couple called us over to Shari's. They said she made the best island drinks around. So we stopped to see if that is true. Jason insisted on a picture with Shari, the owner. We agree that Shari's makes the best island drinks!
To the left is a large grocery store. Above the store pic is the salon and fresh fish store. Above is a conch stand and right is a water taxi.
Below is the famous Chit n' Chill bar. This is party central down here. Hundreds of boats anchored around it.
We walked around Lake Victoria. Stopped at a store to get more coffee and then go find dinner. Blu on the Water was perfect. The was a limited menu but it was so cozy inside. And it was open mic night. We stayed until they closed just having a blast. There was singing, poetry reading, jokes and more singing. Jason sang an Alan Jackson song and a guy did a good Bob Seger. So fun!

Happy First Day of Spring!
Woke up to a blustery morning. 30 knot winds, rain. So So glad we are in a marina. We had a catamaran come in close to us and the guys went to the bow in case they had to fend them off from hitting our boat. Jason was filming and so I was in the cockpit. All turn out good.
Made breakfast, defrosted the frig freezer, went to get more drinks and snacks at the store, and relaxed for the afternoon.
Rain and wind persisted all day. Jason and Kate rented a 4 x 4 so we took off to go to the Fish Fry. "The Fish Fry is a collection of little restaurants that cook up some of the best food on the island. Part of the fun is wandering around and choosing where you want to eat. Grab some food and a drink and either stay in your chosen restaurant or stake out a picnic bench by the water overlooking a ship graveyard." (discoverexuma.com)
We ate at Shirley's and had a great meal. Walked around afterwards to the different bars. Jason sang karaoke. Met some of the locals and shared sailing stories. Fun times!

Still blowing like crazy this morning but the sunrise was amazing. Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day.
Today's activity is go to the Tropic of Cancer Beach in the 4 x 4.
"The longest beach on the island, it is also the prettiest in the Exuma chain. Located at 23 26N 75 35W, the beach is named after the meridian line that defines the northern extent of the tropics and crosses right through it." (https://www.bahamas.com/natural-wonders/tropic-of-cancer-beach)
After a week of solid fun, we had to say goodby to Jason and Kate. We went to lunch at Tim's on the Bay near the airport. Great view. Great artwork. It was 5 minutes from airport so the service that was on Bahamian time wasn't so bad. (Super slow) We dropped them off in the 4 x 4 and headed back to return it before 5:30pm. Driving on the left is crazy but Kim did a great job.
Had such a great time these last two weeks with John and Jackie and Jason and Kate. Now we are on our own unless any of you want to come visit. Just text me and we'll make it happen!
There are about 250 boats anchored across the bay all with their anchor lights on.
Sunday, March 22
Sunrise is amazing! Calm winds. It is going to be a fantastic day!
Spent the day cleaning the boat, gathering up the laundry, relaxing, making burgers and watching Task Master series 21. I never left the boat and I am okay with that. Most places are closed because it is Sunday. At sunset you can hear the conch shells being blown into to announce sunset.
Monday, March 23
Slept so good. Winds are calm and very few waves. Today is provision and get laundry done. And the quest to find Diet Coke is Kim's priority. We also went to the Straw Market.
We found a drop off service for the 2 giant bags of laundry. It will be done by 3:00 pm today.
